Against the Cold

A VR experience designed to help the public to prepare for the Texas Freeze. Due to technical issues, this project was unable to be finished by the end of the semester, but was a great practice for designing VR experiences.

Demo and Concept

Process

During the conceptualization phase, our team compiled moodboards, established user flow and aesthetic vision, planned the layout of our experience, and assigned tasks to organize ourselves thorough the course of the experience. We began doing research on the core educational knowledge that we wanted to impart on our audience. After this, we established basic VR interactions and creating a layout of the house.

The second part of the two weeks that we had on the project was dedicated to carrying out our plans and doing audience research to inform our experience design. During this part, our biggest struggle was coding in Unity. None of the team members were experienced Unity coders, and we had to rely on Chatgpt, which resulted in our code not being able to function at the end of the experience. Nevertheless, my role during this time was to research and compile analysis of our audience, collect data in surveys on general advice during Texas Freezes, create models, assist in troubleshooting coding issues, and using Premiere Pro to display a short demo of the project. This project took a lot of commitment, as none of us had VR headsets at home, which required us to spend our time at our school's VR lab from the time we got out of class to the time the lab had closed. At the end of the course, we were able to create an immersive VR environment and demonstrate our experience playthrough through a slide deck and gameplay reel.
